Activision seems to be on quite a roll with pissing off their user base. Their newest declaration may top the heap: Activision wants to start charging an online fee to play their Call of Duty games, similar to World of Warcraft.

Speaking at BMO Capital Market Conference, the CFO of Activision Blizzard, Thomas Tippl, said, “You should expect us to test and ultimately launch additional online monetization models of some of some of our biggest franchises like Call of Duty.”

While he admits it may be difficult to replicate the same format that World of Warcraft uses, there is no doubt that Tippl is looking forward to charging even more to play Activision’s games. I guess charging $60 for the games with a few $10 map packs thrown in isn’t enough…
well i dont have the game yet but if they make it pay to play then im definitely not getting this game...

Wait, is this only for 360, or for PS3 as well?

Oh, wow. ^ I agree
People wont pay, so less will be online, the people who do pay will be bored cause barely anyone is online, and then they'll stop playing, and thats the cycle of life.
Hopefully this doesnt happen.

They couldn't charge for MW2 on Xbox 360, because we already pay for certain online functions, like online gameplay. It would never get past MS. I could see it happening to PS3 or PC, since they play totally free, only paying their IP for internet in general. Simple as that. Especially not happening with the current "problems" PS3 and PC Users are having. PC gameplay is supposedly uber shit + no dedicated servers anymore. PS3 had that server downtime that everyone cried about.
